Clean Energy LLC of Newcom Group, building Mongolia’s first large-scale wind farm, regularly conducts community meetings with the residents of the Sergelen soum, where the wind farm is located, aiming to inform the local residents of the progress of the construction of the farm. On August 3, 2012, the Company held a public meeting with the Sergelen soum people, which was attended by approximately 200 locals. Representatives from Newcom, Clean Energy, construction contractor Leighton Asia, and turbine supplier GE were present and provided updates on the progress of work at the farm site.  They introduced the construction schedule, safety standards and enforcement, and environmental impact mitigation practices on site.

The wind farm will supply 5% of Mongolia’s electricity needs, and willhugely benefit the local economy of Sergelen soum, opening up opportunities for greater commercial activities in the region such as development of tourism, infrastructure, communication, trade and other social exchanges. The project has created construction jobs for the local community, and has donated 80 million tugrugs to the local development fund. Equally important for the local community was the extension of Mobicom cellular coverage into the area.

The company has undertaken measures to minimize the environmental impact of the Salkhit wind farm.For example, all waste products and sewage is transported to Ulaanbaatar city and recycled, heavy construction machinery travelon specially prepared roads only, speed limit is strictly enforced on construction site to protect public, livestock and animals, gasoline and oil for heavy machinery use is stored in special containers to prevent leakage to the environment. The Company will also undertake land reclamation once the construction is complete.

Bringing innovation and localizing advanced technologies in Mongolia, Newcom is committed to maximizing the participation of Mongolian skills and talent in this important project.  Almost 250 workers on construction site are Mongolians.

Newcom invited theTumen Ekh national folk song and dance ensemble to perform for Sergelen soum people, and also hosted an exciting race among about 80 yearlings.
