This is a common misconception about wind farm in Mongolia, that wind farms cause desertification and change in the local ecosystem. There is no scientific evidence in the correlation between wind farms and desertification. Researches related to the impact of wind farm to ecosystem and environment has been done by the German Wind Energy Institute of Germany. According to the study, they proved that large scale wind farms have no negative impact to the local ecosystem and surrounding pasture. Furthermore, building wind farm is considered one of the most efficient methods of combating desertification and global warming. Wind turbines slow the winds that whip away the soil, and provide an alternative clean emission-zero energy source. Researchers led by SomnathBaidya Roy, Professor of atmospheric science of the University of Illinois observed that the area surrounding wind farm is lightly warmer at night and slightly cooler during the day compared to the rest of the region as turn of turbine rotors mix the warm and cool air in the atmosphere, which is a welcome effect for most cases.
