As the Mongolian economy is expanding day by day, energy consumption is also growing. Therefore, the Government decided to implement several projects. Thus, economists believe that the energy supply of Mongolia will improve.

Baganuur power plant to be built by concession contract

"Baganuur power plant" project will ensure Mongolian national energy system’s stable and reliable operation and supply growing consumption of central energy system. This project is to be built by concession contract. With 700 MW installed capacity and based on Choir-Nyalga coal mine, this power plant is meeting future electrical demands of Baganuur-Choir region or i.e. Dornogovi, Dundgovi, Khentii provinces of the Mongolian national energy system. Also, this project allows energy sources to support each other and ensures energy system’s safe, reliable and stable operation. Total investment of the project is US $ 800-900 million.

Buuruljuut power plant will pay $ 35.5 million in taxes a year

Based on Buuruljuut coal mine in Bayanjargalan sum of Tuv province, a power plant with 300MW capacity and coal mine integrated project is to be implemented. The project will pay 35,5 million dollars by tax per year, until the project end will collect 1 billion dollars by tax to the state budget. And this project has created conditions for direct employment for more than 300 Mongolian citizens and allows Mongolian enterprises work as subcontractors and suppliers.

TT power plant’s funding is a billion dollars

Japan's Marubeni Company had been selected as Tavan Tolgoi (TT) power plant investor. Power plant’s pre-financing is about 1 billion dollars. The project will continue for 30 years. 2000-3000 people will work on the project construction. The power plant is planned to operate in 2019. TT power plant is estimated to pay more than 50 million dollars by tax. Oyu Tolgoi power plant has provided guarantees for this TT power plant.

The "Shivee Energy" will be invested by 11 billion dollars

Government decided to implement a number of projects in order to increase the energy sector generation and one of projects is a "Shivee Energy" project. Successfully starting of "Shivee energy" project expected totally 11 billion dollars investment to come to the Mongolia. In the scope of the project will be constructed 1,300 kilometers high voltage electricity transmission line through Govisumber and Dornogovi provinces also has been planned to export Shivee-Ovoo’s coal as a processed product not as raw. The scope of the project will built power plant with 9,240 MW of power generation capacity, which capacity is nearly 10 times more than the current power plants that generate energy in Mongolia. This energy giant "monster" will consume 34 million tons of coal a year.
